My experience with Child Support

When I decided to divorce my husband I actually went online and looked up child support information. What I have found is that in almost every state there is a website that you can calculate what kind of child support you can expect based off of all of the factors like income, expenses etc.

Just go to a search engine like Google and search "Child Support Calculator for (your state here)" Thats what I did and ended up becoming very informed on what to expect out of a child support settlement.

Its not completely accurate and most of the sites that do this that I've seen disclaim that what it calculates won't always be what you get but it will give you a good rough estimate.

does that really work?

did the engine come up with a good guess? when you found out your actual child support costs, did it come close to the guess the engine made?
i would be surprised if it did because these sutiations are so damn complicated, but if it worked, i will be the first to try it out

My child support calculator...

$0.00 Total Support Due.

1) Custody is worth more than cost of raising the kid or parents would not choose to have kids.

2) Custody is worth more than the cost of raising the kid because parents would want 100% custody even if they did not win child support in court.

3) Parent losing custody is losing more value than the increased cost to the custodial parent. Namely, custody worth $1000 to the non custodial parent, only costs the custodial parent $300. Custodial parent values their custody at more than the child support payment (wanting custody even if they lose support).

4) The only way to enforce support payments is at the barrel of a gun. Violence or the threat of violence against the dad is not in the kids best interest. Would you point a gun at your ex and demand payment in front of your kids? If he resisted, would you shoot? If you would not do it directly, then why would you ask the courts to do it for you?

5) How would you respond if your kids pointed a gun at you and said, "I know you only need to work 6 months per year to provide for me, but I think I deserve everything you are 'capable of', so I want you to work 12 months per year so I can have a new Xbox?"

Would you want to point a gun at your ex and demand he work 12 months instead of 6 so little Jonny can have an Xbox instead of paper and crayons that you had growing up?

If you will not point a gun, then do not use the government to do it. Negotiate with your ex and only through mutual consent can you both decide what is best.

Yes, every state has their own website

That's true, every state has their own website on child support. If anyone is thinking over filing a divorce case then that person must visit forum juridique (legisocial.fr) before going further.

Child support perspective from a woman

My mother received child support from my father, and I remember how it weighed him down to the point of failure. It did not help that my mother was on the cruel side. She didn't work with him when he was a little short on the payment. She threatened jail for him, and I hated her for saying those words in front of me.

I know that the money from child support payments helped us out. But the long term effect is not productive. It lessened both my mother and father in my eyes.

My father died several years ago. He left no inheritance. He had no life insurance. He died an alcoholic and penniless.

I believe child support had something to do with that.

My experience with child support

My experience with child support isn't first-hand. My younger brother was the one with the experience, as he relayed it to me.

First, he loved his kids. That's no doubt. And he always supported them to the best of his abilities. But he was injured on his job. Layed up in the hospital for a month, then rehab for a year. And the child support payments piled up. So he went before the judge to explain, and was told he was in arears. Great. Right. If he didn't catch up, he would lose his drivers license, which did happen. So then work was impossible. He was then physically handicapped and without a way to drive. He lived on disability.

Long story short, he started drinking. Then tried to drive without a license. Bad combination. The accident killed him. So did the child support system. Now I don't have a brother His kids don't have a dad. And nobody gets paid.

Great system.
